About This Event

The World Health Organization defines burnout as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. It's not simply a matter of working too much or life being "out of balance". Burnout can emerge even in high-performing employees and well-functioning teams, which is exactly what makes it so hard to recognise until the consequences become significant.

This isn't a distant risk. 41% of Australian workers are already living with constant stress at work, and those under 40 are carrying the heaviest share of it. KanYini Earth is bringing this conversation forward now, because by the time burnout becomes visible, it has already affected the person carrying it and the people around them.

This session brings together Dr. Jeev, founder of KanYini Earth, and A/Prof. Courtney von Hippel from the University of Queensland, whose research centres on workplace stress and stigma. Together, they'll help unpack what burnout really is, distinguish it from periods of high workload, and explore why even strong teams and well-intentioned leaders miss it.

Why Should You Join

According to recent reports, burnout and stress-related absenteeism now costs the Australian economy an estimated $14 billion a year. And despite its scale, 74% of employees say their organisation still has no clear strategy to address it, while 90% believe burnout is ignored until it's already a crisis.

This isn't a slow-building issue anymore. It's already here, costing organisations their best people, quietly, every single day it goes unaddressed.

That's exactly why this conversation is happening now, not later. The longer burnout stays undiscussed, the more it compounds - in turnover, in trust, in the people who stop showing up as themselves long before they stop showing up at all.

This session exists to close that gap, right when it matters most. If you lead people, support them, or are one of the millions living this reality right now, this is the hour to actually do something about it.

What to Expect

  • A live, expert-led discussion grounded in research.
  • What burnout is, how it differs from a demanding but manageable workload, and why it's easy to miss until the consequences show up.
  • A real-world scenario showing how early signals can go unnoticed.
  • Guidance on when to start paying attention — the kinds of signals worth watching for, at the individual, team, and organisational level.
  • 3–5 actionable takeaways, starting with what organisations and managers can do, alongside what individuals can do for themselves.
  • Live, open-floor Q&A.
  • Recording and resource pack shared after the session.
